weekend paddleboarding on the jubilee river

Weekend Paddles

Do you fancy doing something a little different during lockdown? One way to get your daily outdoor exercise is a one-to-one session with local business Paddleboard Maidenhead.

The sessions are currently happening at the weekends with Paddlesports Coach Belle. She takes each person out on the Jubilee River as the Thames is too high at the moment. You’ll either paddle up stream towards Taplow or downstream towards Datchet.

The Jubilee River is also perfect for beginners as there are no power boats (you may come across a few open water swimmers) and the flow is more suitable. It gives you the opportunity to work on your stroke efficiency and learn how to develop speed.

Although you certainly don’t have to be a beginner to book a session.

When the going gets tough, keep paddling!

How much does it cost?

At this time of year, there is a special price of £35 for 90 minutes if you have your own board. Or £45 for 90 minutes if you require board hire.

Available Parking

There is a car park on Marsh Lane (sign post for Dorney Reach). You can arrange to meet with Belle who will explain where you will paddle from.

Suitable Clothing

The boards are steady, so it is unlikely you will fall in. However at this time of year you will need layers. They will include a neoprene wetsuit or anything quick dry, a windproof jacket and seal socks. You may also want a quick dry hat and gloves. You’ll also need a buoyancy aid (life vest) which is included.

All the info is on the website (under ‘Essentials’ under the ‘More’ tab), and of course you can ask if you’re unsure. They will be able to provide you with a buoyancy aid and a dry bag. Plus insurance, the river licence and coaching are all included.

Enjoy your river adventure!
