How long have you been a graphic designer?
What made you go into graphic design?
I’ve never considered anything else, ever since I was little I’ve drawn posters and had an interest in typography. Later I went to art school to study graphic design and loved it.
Have you always been creative?
Yes, my parents used to buy me rolls of lining paper and I would draw shop fronts and patterns endlessly.
Have you always wanted your own business?
I’ve dipped in and out of freelancing over the years – very common for designers, but I’d always gone back into permanent employment for the security. But eventually the late nights meeting deadlines in agencies and marketing departments was too much whilst bringing up a family, so I set up HKgraphics with a view to working from home and being more present in my children’s lives.
As a graphic designer, you offer a lot of services for businesses. What do these include?
Logos, branding, brochures, stationery, web banners, exhibition displays, Canva templates, newsletters, leaflets – anything that will make a business look great in print and online. I’m particularly keen on getting my clients looking consistent across social media and their marketing materials.
What sort of companies have you worked with, and are they all local?
It’s a real mix of businesses, largely because my career has covered many sectors. I’ve worked with tech companies, L&D businesses, beauty therapists, marine research, security, publishers, virtual assistants, marketers, copy writers – mostly SMEs and start-ups.
